Founder

Dr. N.B.C. Ineneji was called to the English Bar (inner Temple) in 1973 and is a senior member of Nigerian Bar. He graduated from the University College London (UCL) where he successfully completed his doctoral Research in Constitutional Law. He was one of the leading counsel for the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, the President-elect and other detainees in the June 12 struggle; a Human and Environmental Rights Activist. He worked in the British Civil Service where he rose to the grade of Ag. CEO/Principal in ACAS before returning to Nigeria to establish his private law firm as Principal Consultant.

He co-founded the Southern Minorities Movement (his brain child) ; and was a founding member and the National Legal Adviser of the Movement for National Reformation (MNR) led by the Guru and Elder statesman Chief Anthony Enahoro. As a very close associate and consultant to the late Ken Saro Wiwa, he was inextricably involved in the Ogoni struggle.

Dr.Ineneji was elected the Deputy National Chairman of the Campaign for Democracy (CD) after the incarceration of Dr. Beko Ransome Kuti, and for 2 years spearheaded the organization’s robust campaign against Gen. Sani Abacha’s evil dictatorship.

He also worked closely with PA Alfred Rewane (the god-father of the struggle) and Alhaja Kudirat Abiola both of whom were assassinated, too, by Abacha’s killing squad. At the pains of the threat of death by Abacha’s terrorist security agents he was forced to flee Nigeria and stay in the UK in self-exile since April 1996.

To further the Niger Delta struggle he founded the Niger Delta Peoples Movement for Self Determination and Environmental Protection, to unite its various ethnic nations in their quest for justice, equity, fairness, self-determination, resource and environmental control.

Ironically during the Nigeria-Biafra Civil War, he was a formidable advocate of the concept and ideal of ONE NIGERIA but felt betrayed afterwards by those who have visited the most brutal oppression on the Niger Delta Peoples, and its Urhobo nation in particular, whom he sought to mobilize by the inauguration of the Urhobo General Assembly in the UK.
